Microsoft shut down the MSN Messenger (Windows Live Messenger) servers in 2013 and moved users to Skype. Old installers you find online can still be installed, but they can't sign in because the servers they connect to are gone.
Messenger Classic is a new app inspired by MSN, with its own servers. It brings back what people miss: Wizz, Knock, Music Status, display pictures and the contact list. It works on iPhone, Android and in your browser, and it's free. Messenger Classic is not affiliated with Microsoft.
